The producers of the AC-584 settlement, El Espartillar, in Duvergé, began exporting in the first stage of two weekly vans of fruits and vegetables to the United States.
The Packing house Tierra Tropical Company, established in the area, prepares about 1,200 boxes, of 40 pounds each, which are dispatched every two days in a container to Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata and then transported to the international market.
The projection is to increase the export of jalapeño peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, melon, watermelon, okra , among others, of great demand in the international market, according to a press release.
This activity generates more than 75 jobs, boosting the economy of the area and improving the living conditions of the families affected by the flood of Lake Enriquillo.
The general director of the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD), Emilio Toribio Olivo, when conducting a supervisory tour of the settlements in the Lake Enriquillo area, explained that these projects have achieved “great production” agricultural, thanks to an agreement between the producers , the IAD and the private sector.
